{"id":5356,"date":"2016-05-18T13:55:57","date_gmt":"2016-05-18T13:55:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/vonbulow.org\/medlemmer\/?page_id=5356"},"modified":"2016-06-24T12:59:05","modified_gmt":"2016-06-24T12:59:05","slug":"heattreatment","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.biavl.dk\/medlemmer\/videnbank\/beekeeping-in-denmark-2\/varroa-in-english\/heattreatment\/","title":{"rendered":"HEATTREATMENT"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>HEAT TREATMENT OF BROOD FRAMES\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> AN EFFECTIVE PHYSICAL METHOD<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"158\" height=\"221\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5361\" src=\"http:\/\/www.biavl.dk\/medlemmer\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/HEAT.png\" alt=\"HEAT\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Heat treatment of sealed brood provides an effective control of the varroa mite<\/li>\n<li>The varroa mite is more sensitive than bee brood to temperatures that lie above the normal brood temperature<\/li>\n<li>Heat treatment can be carried out in various types of thermostatically controlled boxes<\/li>\n<li>Only frames without dead brood should be treated<\/li>\n<li>Below the Borgstadter -Thermo- Box and Apitherm boxes are described.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>BORGSTADTER &#8211; THERMO &#8211; BOX<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>One can heat treat 16 -17 day old brood frames from queen caged frames (see previous article<\/li>\n<li>Treatment\u00a0 lasts for four hours at\u00a0 44\u00b0C<\/li>\n<li>Few brood injuries &#8211; some shortening of the bees life<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>APITHERM\u00a0 BOX\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Varroa can be treated exclusively with this apparatus<\/li>\n<li>treatment can be carried out at any time on sealed brood, irrespective of the honey flow, e.g. at the end of May or June<\/li>\n<li>One makes a decision about how many treatments are required from the results of monitoring surveys.<\/li>\n<li>One treats brood frames where at least 75% of the cells are sealed.
