Når dronninger har sex med mange forskellige partnere, kan det øge deres risiko for at blive smittet med en kønssygdom. Det kan også føre til samfundets kollaps. Det lyder måske som ingredienser til en saftig roman, men det er virkelighedens verden hos bier.
Forskere fra Aarhus Universitet har sammen med amerikanske og tyske kollegaer fundet, at bidronningers parringsadfærd øger risikoen for, at hele bifamilien bukker under for syndromet Colony Collapse Disorder som følge af, at bierne svækkes af en kønssygdom.
